Recipes: Snacks – Energy Protein Balls

A simple, no-bake snack packed with protein, healthy fats and fibre

These little balls are perfect to have on standby for busy days. They’re quick to make, freeze beautifully and can help bridge the gap between meals when hunger strikes.

Unlike many shop-bought snack bars, they’re made from real ingredients and can be adapted depending on what you have in the cupboard.

Ingredients (Makes 12-15)

  • 1 cup soft Medjool dates, pitted
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts or cashews work well)
  • 2 tablespoons peanut or almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon flaxseeds
  • 1 scoop plain protein powder (optional but recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • Small handful dried fruit (optional)

Method

  1. Place the nuts in a food processor and blitz until finely chopped.
  2. Add the dates and pulse until the mixture starts to stick together.
  3. Add the nut butter, cacao powder, seeds, coconut oil and protein powder (if using).
  4. Blend until everything is well combined.
  5. Stir through any dried fruit if using.
  6. Roll into bite-sized balls.
  7. Chill in the fridge or freezer for 30 minutes to firm up.

Make It Your Own

These are incredibly adaptable. Try adding cinnamon, coconut flakes, chopped walnuts, pumpkin seeds or a little orange zest. Don’t worry about following the recipe perfectly—just use what you have.
